Teenage music superstar Justin Bieber won the best male artist in the European MTV music awards held in Madrid Sunday. Popular actress Eva Longoria acted as presenter for the awarding ceremonies.
Bieber who was recently dislodged by Lady Gaga as the most popular music video material on You Tube, snagged the best male and best push artist categories in a night packed with high-energy performances from Shakira, Linkin Park, Rihanna, Katy Perry, 30 Seconds to Mars and Bon Jovi, among others.
Justin Bieber currently holds that record with 367,025,875 views of his hit single Baby featuring Ludacris.
The 16 year-old is a very close second place behind Gaga in terms of overall viewings with 967 million views of his content on YouTube.
Bieber was born on March 1, 1994, in London, Ontario and was raised in Stratford, Ontario. Bieber's mother, Pattie Mallette, was 18 years old when she became pregnant with her son. Mallette, who worked a series of low-paying office jobs, raised Bieber as a single mother.
In early 2007, when he was twelve, Bieber sang Ne-Yo's "So Sick" for a local singing competition in Stratford and placed second. Mallette posted a video of the performance on YouTube for their family and friends to see.
She continued to upload videos of Bieber singing covers of various R&B songs, and Bieber's popularity on the site grew.
The videos caught the attention of talent agent Braun, who helped Bieber gain an impromptu audition with R&B star Usher.
The audition led to a recording contract which produced the teenage talent's single "One More Time" along with a video in 2009.
His first album "My World" was release the same year.
